What Does It Cost? 

There are internet sites that are negative on MLM. They go on and on and on about lies, deceit, deception, failed marriages, lost friends, death, destitution, destruction.. yadda, yadda, blah, blah.

Most of these tear stained sites tell tales of broken promises, lost time and squandered resources. The owners sob incessantly about how they were led to believe they'd make zillions if they'd buy a product and put up a web site. They paid for the site and bought the product. Then.... they flipped on the TV.

Time passed, first days... then weeks.. then months without remuneration. Suddenly... the sob sisters realized they weren't rich. Lo and behold, their do nothing, sit on their fanny game plan earned them a giant goose egg. What a shocker!!

If these people had any semblance of intellect, they would understand that you never.. I repeat NEVER get something for nothing. If someone's telling you that you're going to make $10,000/month, $25,000/month, $50,000/month in record time, they're lying. If you hear that, you should run, don't walk, but RUN for the nearest exit.

The whining crybaby anti-MLM web sites drone on as though idiotic offers from crooks are unique to MLM. They need to get out more. If they'd dry their eyes and step into the daylight, they'd hear about Enron, Global Crossing, Arthur Anderson, WorldComm, Bernie Madoff and other non-MLM businesses run by criminals fleecing the public. These and hundreds, if not thousands, of non-MLM businesses have cost the gullible and stupid among us billions of dollars.

The way you're going to make money is by not being gullible and stupid. You're going to approach your MLM business fully aware that it's going to take an investment of both time and money. Your time is going to be spent talking to prospects and your money is going to be spent on advertising and products.

Bottom line, if you're looking for a "Free Ride", a "Get Rich Quick Plan", an "Easy Way to Fame and Fortune" MLM is not the way to go.

MLM Is Not FREE
You Must Work Your MLM Business

If you must participate in a get rich quick scheme, virtually every state in the union will sell you a lotto ticket. Talk about a scam.

OK... I'm off my soap box.

I need to make something else absolutely clear. If you're truly broke and can't afford the investment we're about to discuss, then MLM isn't for you. You can begin and sustain most MLMs with lunch money, i.e. most people can free up the money necessary to build an MLM business by canceling cable and carrying a sack lunch, i.e., about $10/Day.

There's nothing we do in MLM that's difficult. We don't cure cancer, we don't raise the dead. Nevertheless, if you don't do what's required, or do it poorly, it could be a very long time before you actually show a profit in your MLM business.

So, when you begin working your new MLM business know and understand that you're the principal variable. You have to learn the work, you have to do the work and you need to be continually striving to improve your skills so you become more proficient at the work. How long that takes is 100% dependent on you. Simply paying your money will not earn you anything. If it turns out that you're not good at MLM, it may take you longer than you thought to turn a profit. The expenses don't stop.

Concluding, if lunch money is too steep a tuition for you to learn to build a successful business, then stay away from MLM.

On to the topic at hand, i.e., what does it cost and what are you going to have to do?

There's really just two costs involved in your MLM business. The costs are product and marketing. The MLM company handles everything else, .i.e.:

Paperwork

Inventory

Shipping

And on and on.

Our job as an MLM distributor has never been easier. This is principally because communication costs have never been lower. Your job as an MLM distributor is to communicate product benefits and share the business. When I first started doing this over 15 years ago, I was the guy with the $48.00 commission check and the $1,800 phone bill. When I began in MLM, a good long distance rate was over 20 cents a minute. If you talked to a guy for 5 minutes, it cost you a buck. Then, you still had to mail him something, usually a product sample and/or a distributor application. After that, you had to play phone tag. It was horrible.

Now, there are a lot of really good flat rate phone services. That means telephone costs are totally contained. When you're communicating with a prospect, you can both be looking at the same web site at the same time. He can see all the product literature and join on-line. That means you've eliminated the mailing costs and reduced the expense and effort required to follow up. The tools are so good now that I'll occasionally do a "One Call Close". That means the first time I talk to the prospect, he'll join my MLM business. That is exhilarating.

With the tools currently available to the professional networker, most of the investment necessary to build your MLM business can be clearly defined and strictly contained.

Best of all, these tools are available to anyone. At this juncture in our industries history, anyone who is willing to do the work has a good chance at doing well in a home based MLM business.

Product And Promotion
The Investment In Your MLM Business

Product - Investment $75 - $200/Month:

There are two kinds of MLM Distributors:

Consuming Distributors

Business Building Distributors
 

Business Building Distributor - If you're a Business Building Distributor, you must use your companies products and you must use them regularly. An MLM distributor that intends to build a business must go on monthly auto-ship. Auto-ship is a mechanism whereby you have a standing order with your MLM company for an amount of product that you'll personally consume in a month.

Typically, there is no company requirement for you to initiate a standing auto-ship order. This is a requirement I impose on myself and my personally sponsored business building distributors. If my personally sponsored distributors want my help to build their business, they must be on auto-ship. That's how I assure I'm compensated. If you intend to make living in MLM you should make the same demand of yourself and those that join your business. I don't work for free. You shouldn't either.

If your people are not on auto-ship, they don't deserve your business building assistance. If they're interested in the MLM company as a business opportunity and are not willing to use the product regularly, they should either select a company with a product they like or leave the MLM industry.

Consuming Distributor - Having said that, I welcome consuming distributors. A consuming distributor is a person who registers as a distributor for an MLM company with no intention of building a business. They simply want access to the company's products. They become distributors because it gives them direct access to the company and distributor discounts on purchases. They make occasional purchases and may or may not be on auto-ship. They're very low maintenance. Aside from the initial effort of introducing them to your companies product, you may never speak to them again. Your company's administrative staff takes their order and assures they receive their product.

I don't require a consuming distributor to be on auto-ship because a consuming distributor makes no demands on my time.

Promotion - Investment $75 - $300/month
